It must have been around 2002/2003 that I bought a black Hohner headless. Of course I had the idea of turning it into the Body Glove Steinberger that Paul used in 1988. But because I had no experience with mechanics or working on guitars, I never had the guts to do it.

After I bought the Leopard Eagle I figured: “I’ve worked as a mechanic now and I know a thing or two about guitars… let’s go for it.” And I did. I stripped the Hohner of its pickups, filled the upper two holes where the single-coil humbuckers used to be, and took it to a sign maker to have it wrapped. The result was amazing.

I bought an EMG 81 pickup and installed it, found some knobs that come close to the Steinberger ones (the originals were just too expensive), and went on a long hunt to find the right reflectors. But I got there in the end. I’ve always loved that guitar.
