BC Rich Eagle Asylum
Introduction – How This Started
I never really was into Paul’s Asylum version of the BC Rich Eagle. But since I had the Crazy Nights one done and with that already designed the Asylum layout for the most, I wanted to expand my collection.
I bought an Eagle in Japan that happened to have the diamonds on the neck and the authentic headstock logo.
The BC Rich Paul Stanley used in 1985-1986
This is the original Eagle from Japan I bought on Ebay.
For an occasion it look very, very good. No scratches anywhere. It even made me having doubts about customising it. But since it was only $ 300,- I decided to do so and buy another one later.
I ordered ENG 81 and EMG 85 pick ups, Grove tuners and new volume- and tone knobs.
I completely disassembled the Eagle and brought it to my sign maker. While the guitar was being wrapped I bought an Asylum tourshirt and customised it to the one Paul Stanley wore during the Asylum tour.
While the guitar was being wrapped, I gathered all the necessary hardware:
- Grover Imperial tuners
- Badass Leo Quan chrome bridge
- Leo Quan gold-colored fine-tuning system
- EMG81 active pickup
I had some black knobs lying around, as well as reflectors.
Just like with the Steinberger, I ran into a few issues while assembling the Eagle.
For example, the original bridge was positioned lower, and the string guides with saddles were above it. However, with the latter, the bolts are closer together than with a bridge, so I had to drill holes to accommodate the Leo Quan.
As a finishing touch, I applied some gaffer tape with white picks. The result is satisfactory.
But…repositioning the bridge turned out to be a wrong decision, since it is crucial where the bridge is placed on a guiter.
That was a lesson to be learned, because no matter what I did, I couldn’t get the guitar in tune. So…
Here it is re-wrapped. The foil is positioned much better than before. It stays in tune this time and I had it finished with some gloss. Love it.
