This is a story of its own. The second guitar I’d wanted ever since I was 15.

I searched for it often and never found it — only truly ugly versions that didn’t even come close. The original will be in a private collection somewhere, since it was sold in 2000 at the big KISS Auction.

While I was on Facebook, someone from the United Kingdom commented on one of my posts, and when I had a look at his page I saw a Cracked Mirror Warlock that was an almost exact replica of Paul’s. The only difference is the mother-of-pearl inlays in the neck: on that guitar they run diagonally, whereas the originals were straight.

But I had to have it, so I got talking to the owner. I asked how he’d come by it, what he’d paid for it, and whether he’d consider selling it. At that point he wasn’t sure, but he said he’d let me know if he ever did decide to sell.

About a month later I offered him an amount higher than what he’d paid for it. He agreed, and in July this year I went over to collect it from him.

This guitar was built in the early eighties, which means it’s neck-through and has the original, rarer headstock. Around 2000 it was given the cracked mirror top layer.

Beautiful example. Everything points to this being — alongside the original — the only one of its kind in the world.
