In January/February I bought a vintage 1979 BC Rich Eagle. Beautiful old guitar — koa, natural finish. I bought it with the intention of having it sprayed black and turning it into the Bruce Kulick version. These guitars usually go for €4,000–4,500, but this one cost me €2,200. It was a bit banged up, but that didn’t matter to me.

The luthier completely restored it, filling and smoothing out all the dents and scratches, and then sprayed it.

It was around that time that I got in touch with Bruce Kulick, and he thought it was fantastic that I was going to recreate his old guitar. His had been stolen, along with two of his Charvels.

He was kind enough to send me photos and tell me exactly which hardware was on his Eagle. So I ordered DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups, a gold Leo Quan bridge and Grover Imperials, and had them fitted.

When the guitar was finished, I sent Bruce a photo and he replied: “Excellent reproduction.”
